The Blessings of Jesus’ Kingship | Amos 9.11–15
The Story
What does Jesus give His people as King?
Amos 9:11–15 points us to the blessings that come through the restoration of David’s kingdom—and ultimately through Jesus Christ, the promised Son of David.
In this section of the Amos 9:11–15 sermon, we consider what God promised when He restored His people after exile: ruined cities would be rebuilt, the land would become fruitful, God’s people would regain prominence among the nations, and the kingship of David would be restored.
But Amos’s prophecy points beyond Israel’s return from Babylon. Its ultimate fulfillment is found in Jesus Christ, the Son of David and King of God’s people. Christ is building His Church by adding living stones to His temple, extending His kingdom throughout the world, and blessing His people through His reign.
This passage helps us understand Amos 9 in its original historical context while also seeing how the prophecy reaches its fulfillment in Christ and His kingdom.
