Jesus Is King—God’s Answer to Your Damaged Soul | Amos 9.11-15
The Story
What does Jesus’ being King have to do with your damaged soul? Amos 9:11–15 shows us that God's purpose for His people is not their destruction but their restoration—and God gives us Jesus as the King who brings rest, security, and a better life.
In this segment from a sermon on Amos 9:11–15, John Musgrave examines the human condition after Adam's sin and explains why our natural condition leaves us disturbed, guilty, anxious, and spiritually damaged. The good news is that God does not leave His people without a King. Jesus, the Son of David, fulfills God's promise to establish an everlasting kingdom and gives His people rest from their enemies.
The book of Judges repeatedly describes what happens when God's people have no king: everyone does what is right in his own eyes. Amos points us forward to God's promise to restore David's fallen house, plant His people securely, and give them lasting blessing. That promise finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the King who gives His people rest.
This message also connects Amos 9 with 2 Samuel 7, Romans 5, Genesis 6 and 8, Ecclesiastes 9, and Jesus' invitation in Matthew 11:28. These passages help us understand the Biblical theology of sin, the human heart, Christ's kingship, and God's purpose to restore His people.
If you want to understand Amos 9:11–15 in its Biblical context, explore the meaning of the Davidic kingdom, or think more deeply about how Scripture interprets Scripture, this teaching is designed to help.
