The Story

What does it mean that Jesus is King?

In Amos 9:11–15, God promises that David’s fallen kingdom will be restored, that the nations will be brought into God’s kingdom, and that God’s people will experience His blessing.

This Biblical sermon shows how those promises find their fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the King who triumphs.

Jesus is not a defeated King. He is actively building His kingdom now. Through the gospel, Jesus is bringing people from every nation into His kingdom, rescuing them from the dominion of darkness and bringing them into the kingdom of God. Satan cannot prevent Christ from saving those whom the Father has given Him.

But the triumph of Jesus is not limited to what He is doing through evangelism today. When Jesus returns, His triumph will be complete. His kingdom will be fully established, His enemies will be judged, and sin, death, suffering, and every effect of sin will be removed. God will make all things new.

In this sermon from Amos 9:11–15, we consider:

• Jesus as the promised King from the line of David
• The meaning of Amos 9:12 and the nations being brought into God's kingdom
• The triumph of the gospel among the nations
• God's sovereign work in bringing people to faith in Jesus
• Jesus' victory over Satan and his deception
• The present advance of Christ's kingdom through evangelism
• The future triumph of Jesus when He returns
• The final judgment and the Lamb's Book of Life
• The new heavens and new earth
• The complete removal of sin, death, mourning, and pain

The kingship of Jesus means that He is triumphing now—and that His triumph will ultimately be complete.
