How Jesus Gives You a Fruitful, Satisfying Life | Amos 9.11–15

The Story

What does it mean for Jesus to be your King—and how does His kingship change your everyday life?

In Amos 9:11–15, God promises restoration, fruitfulness, and blessing to His people. In this message, we see how that promise reaches its fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the Davidic King who reigns over His people and gives them His Holy Spirit.

Because Jesus is your King, your soul can become increasingly fruitful and increasingly satisfied. Jesus gives His people the Holy Spirit, and the Spirit produces His fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

This is not a promise that the world around us will necessarily become better. Rather, it is the Christian's hope that Jesus reigns regardless of what happens in the world—and that He is continually restoring and building up His people. Amos 9:11–15 therefore gives Christians encouragement to find their hope, happiness, and security in Christ rather than in the changing circumstances of the world.

This Biblical teaching from Amos 9:11–15 explores Jesus as King, the fruit of the Spirit, Christian spiritual growth, the satisfaction of the soul, and the hope Christians have because Christ reigns.

This message is especially useful for Presbyterian and Reformed Christians, including Christians in the PCA, OPC, URC, and other Biblically conservative Presbyterian and Reformed churches, as well as anyone who wants to understand the Old Testament, Biblical interpretation, and the fulfillment of God's promises in Jesus Christ.
