God Has Spoken, So Stand Firm in Your Faith | Hebrews 1.1–2
The Story
Why believe in Jesus when the world rejects Him?
Why remain strong in your Christian faith when following Christ can bring ridicule, rejection, and even persecution?
In this Biblical sermon on Hebrews 1:1–2, John Musgrave explains why Christians have every reason to stand firm in their faith. Christianity is not a human invention, a guess about God, or blind faith in somebody else's ideas. Our faith rests on God Himself, who has revealed Himself to His creation and has spoken definitively through His Son, Jesus Christ.
GOD HAS SPOKEN THROUGH HIS SON.
Hebrews 1:1–2 teaches us that God spoke in the past through the Old Testament prophets and has now spoken to us through Jesus Christ. The Son is not merely another messenger from God. He is God, the Creator of the universe, and the One through whom God has revealed Himself to us.
In this sermon, we consider why Christians should remain faithful even when the world rejects Christianity, how God has communicated with humanity through general and special revelation, and why Jesus Christ is the foundation of our confidence in the Christian faith.
IN THIS SERMON, YOU WILL LEARN:
• Why following Jesus may bring rejection, ridicule, and persecution.
• Why Christian faith is grounded in God's revelation rather than human speculation.
• How creation reveals God's eternal power and divine nature (Psalm 19:1–6; Romans 1:19–20).
• How God spoke through the Old Testament prophets and ultimately through His Son.
• Why Jesus Christ is God and the Creator of all things (John 1:1–3; Hebrews 1:2).
• What the New Testament means by “the last days” and how this relates to Christ's first coming.
• Why God's revelation through Christ gives Christians a firm foundation for faith and godly living.
KEY SCRIPTURES: Hebrews 1:1–2; Romans 1:19–32; Psalm 19:1–6; John 1:1–3; Matthew 5:10–12; 2 Timothy 3:12; 1 Peter 4:4; Romans 8:17; Acts 2:17; 2 Peter 1:3.
WHY THIS MATTERS
The world may reject Christianity, but its rejection does not make Christianity false. God has made Himself known, and He has spoken to us through Jesus Christ. Because our faith rests on God's own revelation, we have good reason to remain faithful to Jesus, whatever the cost.
This sermon will be especially helpful to Christians interested in Biblical interpretation, the authority of Scripture, the deity of Christ, God's revelation, and the foundations of the Christian faith.
