Good Friday & a Cup of Wrath?
The Story
This Good Friday sermon, “Good Friday & the Cup of God’s Wrath” (Luke 22:42), explores the profound biblical doctrine of God’s wrath and Christ’s substitutionary atonement.
Scripture repeatedly speaks of the “cup of God’s wrath,” poured out against sin (Psalm 75:8; Jeremiah 25:15; Revelation 14:10), yet in the gospel we see that Jesus Christ willingly drank that cup on behalf of sinners.
This message explains why God’s wrath is just, how humanity stands in debt before a holy God, and how Christ—perfect, sinless, and obedient—took that wrath upon Himself at the cross.
Rooted in Reformed theology and rich biblical exposition, this sermon calls unbelievers to faith in Christ and urges believers to rest fully in the finished work of Jesus, who drank the cup to the dregs so that His people would not drink a single drop. A powerful Good Friday message on grace, justice, and the glory of the cross.
